credit card excitment

urg. some people are so dishonest...

last monday i randomly checked our credit card activity online and something caught my eye. it was for windmill inns amer9 for $190.40. matt and i hadn't discussed staying anywhere called "windmill inns", so i thought maybe this was a valentine mini-getaway surprise. i googled where there were windmill inns and there was one in washington state ... and honestly ... wondered why matt would choose such a place. it wasn't exactly what i would choose if i had the choice. i convinced myself that it was recommended due to some exciting 'happeneing' going on in the small town. i also noticed a bed bath and beyond debit for $5.00. i thought, this too, was something matt got me for valentines, because i hadn't gone to bed bath and beyond in months. the five dollars even did seem odd, but i assumed it was just a capture and that they'd correct the amount shortly like how gas stations do ...

i went about my day .. gwyn had a dentist appointment .. and then decided to check the credit card statement again to see if the bed bath and beyond entry had been corrected. i was shocked to see two more entries for windmill inns ameri9, one for another $190.40 and another for $258 and some change. there was also a hit for around 40 bucks at a mandarin grill. i definitely knew something was up. i thought that the hotel matt booked was screwing around, so i called him and asked him if he did indeed book a room there. he had never heard of it. great. i told him how our credit card now had three hits from this place and he said it had to be fraud. i immediately called our credit cards company and let them know. they saw where the bed bath and beyond hit was from idaho and the windmill inns were all from tuscon, arizona. we had never been to idaho and had no plans of going to arizona. they immediately cancelled our card.

thank goodness i caught it right away. i am not somebody's sugar mama funding hotel stays and chinese lunches.

  1. Good catch! I just had to call mine when there was an erroneous fee last month.
