Use words ... not fists
We were at a friend's daughter's birthday party a week or so ago having a good time when Gwyn lost her innocence. Apparently Gwyn was playing with the other kids when one of them made her mad. There was a playhouse in the backyard that Gwyn wanted to get into but one of the kids wouldn't move out of the way for her to get into the house. She became very frustrated and when he finally moved she called him ..... wait for it .... wait for it .... an "f'n a-hole" .. only she didn't abbreviate!!!!!! Yes, folks .. she busted out the big guns. I was horrified. I have no idea where she heard that as Matt and I don't walk around saying things like that with or without kids around. When I asked her what she said she whispered it in my ear. When I asked her where she heard it I could only picture that scene from A Christmas Story where Ralphie says he heard the swear words from another kid so his mom calls that kid's mom and that kid's mom says Ralphie heard the swear words from "his father!!" Gwyn never did tell me where she heard it from. She says she doesn't know. Doesn't matter where she heard it as long as she now knows that is something we never say. I guess I should be relieved that she at least used words and didn't hit him. At least she learned one lesson I've taught her in her 5 1/2 years of life. Sorry, again, Owen!! :(
