family movie night

last night we watched wall-e.  it was a cute movie about a little trash compacting robot craving companionship with an 'alien' robot and their journey to ultimately bring humans back to earth.  at one point in the movie the 'alien' robot (eve) finally realizes the friend 'she' has in wall-e (the trash compacting robot).  eve has to essentially re-boot wall-e's system and when he comes to he does not recognize her.  this makes eve sad.  gwyn turns to me with tears in her eyes and her mouth quivering and says "she just wants her friend" ... totally broke my heart.  i couldn't speak.  tears welled up in my own eyes.  i just took her in my arms and hugged her while we watched the rest of the movie.  eventually wall-e comes to and remembers eve.  gwyn was very relieved.  gwyn said when the movie was over that she really liked the movie ... "It made me laugh and cry a little bit".  made me happy to see that she was empathetic.  can't really teach that.  i love that little girl.
